You can access your self storage room as often as you wish (putting items in or taking them out) totally free of charge. Our Walsall storage facility opening hours are Monday – Friday 8am – 7pm, Saturday 8am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 4pm. 24 hour 7 day access is available on some of our domestic self storage units, please ask for details.

A Short History of Rushall

Rushall is predominantly a residential area within the confines of the borough of Walsall. It is located 1 mile (1.6km) north east of Walsall.

The village itself has been around for some time and is mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086 as having 8 households and 1 mill with assets of 10 shillings for the year.

The meaning of the name Rushall is ‘marshy ground where rushes grow’.

It is believed that early settlements were located north of Rushall Hall, where there remain signs of a moat having been built. During a 19^th century excavation, Saxon coins were unearthed indicating that this was a Saxon site.

The area was first recorded as belonging to the Boweles family who passed it on to the Grobberes. Eventually it came into the hands of John Harpur, who built Rushall Chuch around 1444 next to the hall. The church survived the Civil War but had to be re-built in 1854-6 and its tower remained until 1867.

In the 17^th century, the Leighs became the landed gentry in the area. It was subsequently passed to the Reverend Edward Mellish.

The area around Rushall abounds in coal and limestone and it is generally known as a mining village. The limestone is quite superior in quality and gives a finished polish that is on a par with Marble.

Evidence shows that during the battle of the War of the Roses and between Charles I and Parliament the manor was heavily fortified and a number of garrisons were stationed there.

When the quarries in Rushall Hall Park became flooded, they became Park Lime Pits and today are a nature reserve. The Arboretum Lakes were similarly formed by quarrying.
